Cheap Accommodation in Selcuk, Turkey

By Abdullah Cagiran

Most travellers to Selcuk are just looking for a clean comfortable base from which to explore the local attractions of Ephesus, Temple of Artemis, House of the Virgin Mary, Basilica St John, Isa Bey mosque, Pamucak beach and the village of Sirince.

To get the most out of your time in Selcuk you should allow a stay of 2 or 3 nights at least. If you are travelling with a family then there are 2 water parks not far from Selcuk. Both are accessible by public transport. The tourist resort of Kusadasi is also easy to reach from Selcuk. Small local buses (dolmus) leave throughout the day from Selcuk bus station and reach Kusadasi in 45 minutes.

There is a good choice of cheap accommodation in Selcuk. Most properties cater for back packers and travellers rather than tourists looking for 5* luxury. All of the hostels and guest houses offer basic accommodation. For family travel the Boomerang Guest House has a super Family room with a Double bed and 2 Singles. The room is en-suite, light and airy and also has a very attractive balcony. The added bonus of this family room is air conditioning for those hot summer months.Rates for the family room are EUR 48, and in the local currency this is Turkish Lira 90 so it really is good value for money and includes a hearty breakfast.

Bookings for cheap accommodation online is steadily increasing. From students to families and business travellers just looking for a clean base to stay, cheap accommodation is here to stay.
The popularity of independent travel seems to be responsible for this upcoming trend and hostel and Guest House owners are responding offering more services and comfort than ever before.
That being said, it does depend upon your destination. If you book a cheap hotel in London and want anything more than a base from which to explore the city then it's highly likely that you will be disappointed.

If you have never booked a budget hotel before, then to get the most out of your stay you need to make sure that you will not expect too much or you will certainly be disappointed and if this is likely to be the case then its best to pay a little more to make sure you get what you really want.

Budget hotel check list

Budget hotels generally fall into the 1-2* category and have limited facilities

Location. Don't always expect a prime location if you are booking a budget hotel. The location may be central but in a residential or rundown part of the city.

Shared facilities. Check the hotel description. You may have to share bathroom facilities though not always.

Room size. Expect your room to be a little cramped. Possibly not a wardrobe but hooks on the wall for your clothes.

Street noise. It's highly unlikely that your room will have soundproofing.

Double beds. Probably not. More than likely 2 Single beds to sleep 2 people instead of 1 large bed.

To sum it up, if you are looking for a base with no frills from which to explore a city then you will get the most out of a budget hotel and enjoy your stay.

So are there any major chain hotels there like a Hampton in or a Hilton or are there only small hostel type places to stay. I really like staying with the well know chains when possible because I'm familiar with them. My favorite hotel is The Hampton where I work. You should come check it out and do a review too :-D

Hampton Inn is offering 10% off their best rate available rate until 9/1/08. We’re also giving away some great prizes leading up to TEAM USA competing in the Olympic Games.
