Hotels - Sharm El Sheikh, An Introduction

Situated on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, Sharm El Sheikh or Sharm for short is where the momentous deserts of Egypt come to an abrupt end on the coast of the Red Sea.

These tropical waters boast some of the world's most exquisite coral reefs with a magnificent selection of rare fish and exotic flora.

Known as the "city of peace", Sharm is proving the most popular destination on the Sinai with its highly developed infrastructure and easily accessible amenities. In fact, Sharm's increasing popularity has led to the Egyptian government pushing local developers to build more coastal resorts; Sharm however, remains the favourite.

As mentioned the region is home to some of the world's most impressive underwater scenery, and this is by far the number one tourist attraction of the Sharm.

A great deal of the coasts popularity is lent from the fact that it can be enjoyed by simply snorkeling off the coast, essentially making it accessible to everyone who can swim.

To truly experience what the Red Sea's coast has to offer though, one should opt to scuba dive, with world class diving training and a wealth of shops to accommodate divers Sharm offers a first rate diving experience.

There is of course, much more to Sharm than beaches and sea, and out of the water one is able to get a true feel for the majestic region of the Sinai, with its dramatic mountains and valleys, numerous national parks and historic monuments.

Notably, St. Catherine's Monastery, constructed in the 6th century is the oldest functioning monastery on the planet and situated just a few miles from the coast.

Sharm has built up an excellent infrastructure of high-class hotels, villas, restaurants and bars to serve its visitors; in fact in some places it's easy to forget you are holidaying in an Egyptian resort as you get the impression of a slight European refinement.

Walking the boardwalks at night, Sharm's lively bars and clubs become some what reminiscent of the kaleidoscope of colours and sounds that is Las Vegas by night.

As mentioned there are a wealth of high class hotels and villa's dotted along the coast, it is also possible to find cheap hotels for those on a budget. The internet is an excellent source for finding hotels in Sharm El Sheikh.
