Asia's Business Hotels

Hotels in Asia

By Chris Bonds

When it comes to business hotels, Asia boasts some of the best in the world. These range from the old-world charm of the great colonial hotels like Raffles in Singapore to the new generation of ultra-modern hotels like the Grand Hyatt in Shanghai.

However, Asia is also home to less costly hotels that have laid on facilities to make the lives of business travellers easier. Hotels wishing to lure corporate trade today have to meet the technological needs of their clients. Internet connectivity is a must - and is increasingly becoming the standard.

Location is important as executives strive to make the greatest use of their time. Distance from business centres, the availability of transport and 24-hour room service are all factors that can determine the attractiveness of a hotel. For relaxation, a well-equipped gym is important.

Choosing a hotel can be difficult. To assist you, here are some top business hotels in two key Asian cities:

SHANGHAI

Budget: Laurel Hotel

Modern and new hotel geared towards business travellers, with an E business suite that offers advanced computer facilities. It is situated next to Shanghai People's Square, a popular business and shopping area and close to the Bund.

Superior: Park Hotel

The pride of Shanghai for more than half a century, this grande old dame harks back to an earlier era. However, its location in the centre of the shopping area on Nanjing Road can't be beat. A handy business centre on the 15th floor and in-room computers with free internet access makes this a great business choice.

Luxury: Grand Hyatt Shanghai

Occupying floors 53-78 of the Jin Map Tower in the centre of Pudong, Shanghai's business district, the Grand Hyatt Shanghai is recognised as the 'highest hotel in the world'. Rooms, with floor-to-ceiling views of the skyline, are equipped for business with enhanced work desk lighting, a data port, hi-speed Internet access and a speakerphone.

HONG KONG

Budget: Ramada Hong Kong Hotel

It's not easy to find a decent, low-priced hotel in Hong Kong. The Ramada offers clean rooms and friendly staff at an excellent rate. Location is a little out of the way, but trams pass the front door and the hotel provides a shuttle bus. Wireless Internet is available.

Superior: Renaissance Kowloon Hotel

This 4-star hotel is located in a superb location on Kowloon side. Connected to a shopping centre and close to an MTR station and the Star Ferry harbour, transportation is easy. There is broadband Internet access and a fax machine in all guest rooms, making this a great choice.

Luxury: Mandarin Oriental Hotel Hong Kong

This hotel is back on top after extensive renovations with more spacious bedrooms. The hotel offers impeccable service with a distinctive Oriental flair in a superb location overlooking Victoria harbour. In-room technology includes wireless internet, wireless keyboard, surround sound, touch screen telephones, LCD screens, a single remote control and support from IT butlers. Superb restaurants will impress your business associates.

What to Consider When Choosing an Island Resort

By Henry Cobb

Cheap hotels search & book

Are you interested in taking a trip, vacation, or a honeymoon to an island? Whether you are interested in visiting Hawaii or another well-known island destination, you may want to think about staying at an island resort. Island resorts, which are also commonly referred to as vacation resorts, are the perfect place to spend your next island trip, vacation, or honeymoon.

If you choose to vacation on a popular and well-known island, like one of the Hawaiian islands, you will find that you have a number of different island resorts to choose from. While it nice to have a choice, you may be wondering how you can go about choosing the perfect island resort. When it comes to finding the perfect island resort, there are a number of important factors that you should take into consideration. A few of those factors are touched on below.

One of the many factors that you should take into consideration, when choosing an island resort, is location. When it comes to vacationing or honeymooning on an island, there a large number of individuals who are drawn to the island’s beautiful beaches. If you are one of those individuals, you may want to think about staying at a beachfront island resort. Beachfront island resorts are not only nice because of their beauty, but they also often give you twenty-four hour access to the coast and fun costal activities.

Appearance is another factor that you may want to take into consideration, when choosing an island resort to stay at. Whether you are taking a simple trip, a family vacation, or a honeymoon, there is a good chance that you want to want to stay at a top of the line island resort, one that is beautiful. Before choosing an island resort to stay at, you may want to request to see pictures of the resort, as well as some of the resort rooms. This will help to make sure that you not only choose a beautiful island resort to stay at, but that you are not disappointed with what you end up with.

Of course, cost is another factor that should be taken into consideration. You will want to make sure that you are able to afford the cost of staying at an island resort. If you are on a budget, you may want to think about booking your travel arrangements in the form of a travel package, as you are usually rewarded with discounts for doing so. You may also want to examine inland island resorts, as they tend to be more affordable than beachfront island resorts. While cost is definitely something that should be taken into consideration, you will want to make sure that you do not compromise cost for quality.

In short, cost, appearance, and location are just a few of the many factors that you should take into consideration before choosing an island resort to vacation or honeymoon at. Taking the time to examine all of your options is the best way to ensure that your island travel is everything that you wanted it to be.

Ski Holidays in Slovenia - Top 5 Low Budget Resorts for Beginners

By Gabriela Rupp

Skiing is a great sport for all ages. If you are new to the slopes, you may be looking for recommendations for good ski resorts you'll enjoy. This guide will help you choose the best Slovenian ski holidays and resorts for people new to the sport. If you're budget-conscious, you may want to take a look at the Slovenian ski resorts too... they are very affordable.

While skiing has never been a cheap sport, by the time you have bought your clothing, booked your vacation and rented the equipment you require, added all those extras like insurance (Click Here For Insurance), skiing lessons and a lift pass, you may feel you need to take out a loan. You may be asking yourself if it is really worth it.

Hold tight to your ski poles... even with a low budget you can enjoy nice ski holidays if you're willing to do a bit of shopping around for bargains, make an effort to eat frugally while you're there, and can make your own travel reservations when needed.

Andorra has always been the most inexpensive place to ski in Europe... but not anymore. Since it joined the European Union, prices have soared. At the same time, this duty-free principality has spent over £112 million over the past few years to build new lifts and make itself a four- or five-star vacation destination. Someone has to pay this bill... and it is the tourists.

If you're a skier looking for a less expensive ski option this season, check out Slovenia. It is one of the top destinations in eastern Europe. One could say, that Slovenia has got a corner on the budget holiday market. The ski resorts are establishing themselves as major destinations in the budget ski vacation market with their excellent skiing, modern amenities and beautiful scenery. These resorts are in particular suitable for beginning skiers, and they charge very reasonable prices.

Whether you're traveling with family or by yourself, this is a place you won't want to miss. Slovenia offers terrific slopes for beginners and those looking for something different than they normally ski. It has something for everyone! The ski resorts are few, but fantastic. Some ski slopes face beautiful pristine lakes, others offer incredible mountain scenery. Courses are varied enough to be safe for beginners, yet challenging enough for intermediate skiers. You'll find Slovenia's resorts to be quiet and relaxing as well, unlike some of the other more well-known resorts around Europe.

Slovenia's most famous resorts are Kranjska Gora and Maribor Pohorje, the site of several international races. Since these slopes are not as high in altitude as some of the neighboring resorts in the Alps, if you want to be assured of adequate cover you may want to wait to see before booking your reservations. While this may seem a bit of a hassle, remember, this makes the slopes easier to reach. The lower center of Kranjska Gora is around 800 meters (approximately 2624 feet).

Slovenia's highest ski resort is Mount Kanin... touching the sky at 2,000 meters (approximately 6561 feet). It is covered in snow until the spring. The Kanin Ski Center is close to both Austria and Italy, so tourists vacationing here can pick up a seven-day pass that allows them to ski for free for two days at the Austrian ski resort of Arnoldstein and the Italian resorts of Sella Nevea and Tarvisio.

One of the most modern ski resorts in Slovenia is the Cerkno Ski Center - my favorite slovenian ski spot. Situated at 1,300 meters (approximately 4265 feet), it has modern snowmaking equipment and the only covered chairlifts in Slovenia. It is also the best equipped slovenian ski resort for families. The Cerkno Ski Center guarantees snow for 70 days every season. It is close to the towns of Gorenjska and Primorska.

Bohinj has a private lake with ski slopes above it. The resort of Vogel, which can only be reached by cable-car, is the biggest and most sophisticated in Slovenia.

That was my Top 5 slovenia ski holidays recommendation for you. Are you looking for excellent downhill skiing? Then let me mention also Krvavec, a slovenian ski resort near Ljubljana, which occupies a meadow on the Kalška range.

See you skiing in Slovenia!

Slovenia Wellness Resorts - 6 Low Budget Insider Tips

Cheap hotels search & book

By Gabriela Rupp

Slovenia is known for its healing thermal and mineral waters. They have been used since Roman times. Besides the benefits from the natural springs, Slovenia has several major health resorts with wellness programs. Some have become specialized wellness centers that offer classical massage, complementary therapies from the Far East, stress-reduction, beauty, nutrition and weight loss programs, just to list a few. The options to choose from are infinite.

Let us take a closer look at a few of the most popular wellness destinations designed to pamper you... physically, mentally and spiritually.

Podetrtek in eastern Slovenia offers a healthy, unpolluted environment. The Olimia Thermal Spa is truly a marvel, offering therapeutic thermal waters and water parks, as well as massage, fitness classes and beauty services. One of their specialties is an on-staff allergy specialist who uses bio-resonance therapy. The nearby hotels are surrounded by nature trails for hiking and biking. In the nearby town of Olimje, a monastery lays claim to being the third oldest pharmacy in Europe. Even today, the monks prepare their creams and tinctures from nearby wild herbs.

In 2003, the Balnea Wellness Center opened its doors. It is located inside the Dolenjske Toplice Health Resort. Beautiful scenery and three thermal springs are among the many offerings at this modern wellness resort. Laguna houses the thermal water pools and whirlpools for your relaxation. Oaza houses Finnish saunas as well as Turkish and Japanese baths for gentle relaxing cleansing. Alternatively, you may choose to lounge in the misty atmosphere of the tropical garden. Don't forget to visit the Aura, where you can choose any one of a number of massage techniques. The resort offers a wide variety of outings and other activities from underwater massage to archery. Make sure you see what is on the agenda before you arrive.

"Wellness in the Heart of Thermal Springs" is the title of the program at the Terme atež Thermal Spa. This spa is designed in the classical manner, and is the largest natural health spa in Slovenia. They have several programs dedicated to relaxation and rest. These thermal springs are among the hottest you will find in Slovenia. Take your choice of Roman-Irish baths, Finnish saunas and Turkish baths. Choose amongst several massage techniques as well. With eleven outdoor and five indoor thermal pools, including whirlpools, wave pools, water slides, a slow river and more, there are more than enough aquatic activities to choose from. There are also athletic activities like squash, tennis, bowling, fishing, biking and boating at the spa. Nearby, you will find an 18-hole golf course at Mokrice Castle.

Besides incredible healing thermal pools, Terme Palace Portorož offers five individual wellness centers, each focusing on something different. The Thalasso Center offers fango (salt pan mud), algae therapy, and brine and seawater baths. A complete selection of massage therapies is available at the Massage Center. Beauty therapies and regimes are offered at the Medical Beauty Center. Physical therapy is available at the Physiotherapy Center, and the Thermal Recreation Center offers covered swimming, saunas, a sun terrace, a tepidarium, a fitness studio and a play area for children. Nearby you can enjoy a rousing game of tennis, practice your golf swing at the local driving range or relax with a game of mini golf. You can even walk along the beach at sunset and enjoy the Adriatic shore.

The Wai Thai Center for traditional Thai massage is also located here, inside the Morje Hotel. Specially trained Thai massage specialists can offer different types of traditional massage, suited to your individual needs. The floating chamber and solarium are interesting treats, as is the steam sauna. The in-house beauty center offers natural treatments for your face, hair and body.

Located between Portorož and Koper you can find the Strunjan Health Resort, which is part of the Krka Zdraviliš a group that also owns Dolenjska Toplice, mentioned above. Offering specialized seaweed treatments and thalasso therapy (a combination of seaweed, sea fango, seawater and the Mediterranean climate), they will do a custom program just for you.

More than fifteen natural thermal and health resorts and wellness centers you will find all over Slovenia, in addition to the few we have mentioned here. If you are looking for a wellness vacation, you cannot go wrong choosing Slovenia... it has so much to offer.

Serena Mombasa Beach Hotel- (5) Five Star Mombasa Kenya Hotel

Kenya Hotels

By Robert Muhoho

Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel

Imaginative arabesque architecture makes the Serena Beach Hotel one of the most interesting hotels on the Kenyan coast. The buildings are a delight of white wash, arches, and grill-work. There are lush gardens courts, and a spectacular arrangement of pools. Water is a major theme of this hotel. A free form swimming pool sparkles in the sun, there is the sound of fountains, and cool garden pools compliment white marble and colorful flowers. Beyond, the sea laps the beautiful white sand of Shanzu Beach.

The reception area sets a striking mood for the hotel. The high white ceiling has contrasting mangrove beams, and there is an entire wall of elegantly carved and arched wall niches. Lamu-style furniture with bright cushions and hanging brass lanterns continue the Swahili motif.

Although the hotel has space for more than 300 guests, its spacious grounds and rambling low layout mean that you never get the feeling of being in a large busy hotel. The management limits the size of tour groups. All the public areas look over lawns and tall palm trees towards the sea.

Serena Beach Hotel has been accepted as one of the “leading Hotels of the World”. There is something extra special about the appearance of this hotel and the services it offers. The public rooms and dining areas are particularly lovely. A host of water sport activities are included in the tariff. Champagne is poured at breakfast, and afternoon teas served on the beach.

There are several restaurants. The elegant Fountain Restaurant has white arches, cool dripping fountains, and intricately carved Lamu furniture. The restaurant spills out on to a terrace overlooking the ocean. Right on the beach is the less formal Jahazi Grill which specializes in charcoal-grilled seafood and barbecues. Here you can eat with sand underfoot or climb to the open upper level which is built like a dhow with sails overhead. There is an air-conditioned piano bar with complimentary hot hors d’oeuvres at the cocktail hour.

Accommodations at the Serena Mombasa Beach Hotel

Guests’ rooms and suites are in separate whitewashed buildings which are only two or three stories high. They are rather charming, with thatched roofs, carved balconies and various shaped arches. The rooms are located in the grounds on both sides of the main building.

The older section is closer to the sea and has smaller rooms. This section was designed to represent an old Swahili village. Some rooms are tucked behind others. The new section, although built further back from the sea, guarantees a glimpse of the water. These rooms are bigger with far superior bathrooms.

There are several suites and some family rooms. Two VIP suites are especially luxurious with private Jacuzzis. There are both twin and double bathrooms.

All of the 166 rooms are furnished in Lamu style, and although the décor is interesting, the old wind rooms are small and rather cramped. Swahili arches frame mirrors and windows. Each room has a balcony and ensuite bathroom with tub. There is air conditioning, a minibar, hair dryer and direct dial telephone. The favorites: #221 in New Wing-corner room with great sea view and sunning balcony. Front rooms in old section have good sea views (#116 and 121 sleep four)

Special offerings

Swimming pool, water sports center (windsurfing, sailing and snorkeling free to hotel guests), Scuba diving, deep sea fishing, dhow cruising by arrangement, four floodlit tennis courts, air-conditioned squash courts, mini golf, pool table, table tennis, conference room, hair dresser, free shuttle bus to Mombasa.

Altinkum Didim Beach Resort - Turkey

Hotels Istanbul

By Stuart Harris

Turkey has many beautiful resorts along the Aegean coast. Altinkum is one such small resort town on the shores of the Aegean Sea; it is only 90 minutes transfer from Bodrum Airport. The town has got its name after the golden sand on its beaches. Altinkum means "golden sands". The magnificent beaches of golden sand gently shelving into the shimmering turquoise blue water of the Aegean Sea is an enchanting sight. Altinkum resort has three beaches. The main beach has plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for basking on the beach. Or you can go swimming in the nice, clear blue water of the Aegean Sea. Plenty of water sports are also available; children enjoy going on the pedal boats. There are enjoyable boat trips that take you around the bay and the Castle. The second beach has many bars and restaurants facing the sea. The third beach is a smaller more secluded beach.

Apart from swimming and basking on the beach, there is plenty of sight seeing you can do. There are many interesting ancient sites you can visit near Altinkum. A short ten minutes journey from the resort center is the Temple of Apollo where you will see the famous head of Medusa adorned with snakes; and you will be astonished with the size of the columns here.

Three And Four Star Hotels In Dubai

Hotels Dubai

By Pankaj Mohan

Property firms are increasingly looking at constructing more three and four star hotels in Dubai these days. Dubai has made a surge in the recent years in trying to become the recreational center of the Middle East. A large number of tourists, apart from its expatriate community, are crowding Dubai's lanes each year. This has given a great push to Dubai hotels, especially to those in the luxury segment. One may see many five star hotels popping up across Dubai's horizon as a result, and many being announced regularly. The realty market hasn't taken care of catering to the needs of the low-end clientele, on the other hand. Realtors are increasingly looking at developing more affordable hotels therefore, and trying to gain a foothold in this emerging scenario.

There are several reasons why we are witnessing a sudden spurt in three and four star hotels in Dubai. First of all, tourism is getting diversified and looking out at wining the favor of low-end clientele in the whole world. Airlines are offering discounted flights to keep up being alive in an overcrowded zone. Tour operators are selling last minute holidays and cheaper hotel rooms to win more buyers. Travel industry is fast acquiring a global and competitive outlook. Dubai hotels couldn't ignore these emerging trends. There are several other major cities in the Middle East that could soon start giving Dubai a run for its money. Dubai has got no other alternative but to begin re-looking at its policies; hence the rising demand for less expensive hotels now.

There are a total of 90 three and four star hotels in Dubai in the present day scenario. However, it stands highly insufficient in the backdrop of a rising demand for budget accommodation. The trend might transform very quickly though, since more and more the UAE based construction houses were proposing budget hotel plans. Dubai's investment firm Istithmar plans to partner with London based Easy Group, and build 50 more budget hotels in the near future. These Dubai hotels would be launched and promoted under the brand name of Istithmar Hotels. Dutch hotel chain, Golden Tulip Hospitality, is also planning to partner in 10 new budget hotels soon. The firm is already managing twelve hotels across this region and six more are scheduled to open up by the end of 2009.

Hotels in Dubai have always reported strong occupancy, especially during the peak summer seasons. However, the new emerging trend is that of an increased number of travelers from within the Gulf region. Until recently, Gulf travelers constituted up to 25 % of the clientele in Dubai hotels, most of these having their annual summer breaks. However, this has gone up to 50% in the recent months. Most hotels and hotel apartments report of occupancies that may lie in excess of 80 to 90 percent. One might say therefore how exhausted Dubai hotels could be finding it to continue as a business today, and how urgently they need to be given more three and four star hotels by the real estate firms.
